A conference you won't want to miss - register now!
Tues 10 - Thurs 12 July 2012, Darwin
Boarding Australia's 2012 Conference will be a great opportunity to extend your professional learning and networks - and to enjoy the amazingly relaxing experience of the dry season in Darwin on the shores of the Arafura Sea at the Sky City Casino.
You'll meet with friendly, like-minded people as we share the motivations, challenges and practicalities of working with our students in boarding schools and residential facilities across Australia from regional and metropolitan areas to remote communities.
Whether you are in the early stages of your career or bring with you many years of experience to share, we're inviting you to learn from each other and from our range of highly qualified presenters.
The theme 'Creating a Great Boarding Experience' will be developed by keynote speakers Terry O'Connell, Adam Voigt and Sarah McArthur who will present the principles behind restorative justice as well as their hands-on and inspirational approaches to working with young people, families and significant others in building and restoring relationships.
And when the conference is over why not stay on for a little longer and take in the Mindil Markets, local restaurants, historical locations, and the experience of Darwin or beyond? Special accommodation rates are on offer for extra stays.
You are invited to join us - mark your calendar now - and we'll be providing you with more information soon.

Presenters
Adam Voigt, Sarah McArthur, and Terry O'Connell will address how houseparents, or residential supervisors can use the Restorative Practice Framework to meet student needs, build life and social skills and identify significant others to support students whilst boarding.
Adam Voigt: Adam is an experienced teacher and the inaugural Principal at Rosebery Primary School in Darwin. He will talk about how he learnt to integrate application in most situations and settings. His emphasis is on ensuring that practitioners are able to explain their practice what they do and why doing that works and importantly, learn ways of being able to share their practice with others.
Terry O'Connell: Terry will challenge you about your practice and explore ways of being more consistent and intentional in how you engage colleagues, students and families.
Sarah McArthur: Sarah works with Joel Mitchell who was responsible for developing the 'Get Focused Programs' for at risk young people and families in Darwin. The Restorative Practice framework underpins the practice used to engage and challenge the young people.
Critical to the program's success is the involvement of family and significant others. Whilst the young people undertake a range of interesting and challenging activities, the focus at all times is on helping young people to learn how to self-manage and to build positive
relationships.
